Shōta no Sushi
Shōta no Sushi is a Japanese manga series by Daisuke Terasawa, published from 1992 to 1997. The story follows the young sushi chef Shōta as he strives to become a master sushi chef. Along the way, he learns the finer points of sushi preparation, faces a range of challenges, and competes with other sushi chefs. The series offers deep insight into the traditions, techniques, and culture of Japanese sushi craftsmanship.
The manga was adapted into a live-action television series that aired in Japan in 1996. Both the series and the manga helped foster a greater understanding and appreciation of sushi, both in Japan and internationally. They highlight not only the culinary aspects of sushi, but also values such as dedication, craftsmanship, and ambition.
The title Shōta no Sushi combines the protagonist’s name, “Shōta” 将太, with the word “sushi” 寿司, and thus literally means “Shōta’s Sushi.”
